Motorweld was set up in 1973 by Gary Knight, operating from premises in Old Market. Over the next eighteen years, the company developed as Bristol's foremost Crash Repair Service, gaining a strong reputation for the high quality of its body repair work. In 1991, two of Motorweld's longest-serving employees, Richard Bojski and Paul Fortune, bought into the company as partners.

After almost 30 years of continuous development, it became clear at the start of the new millennium that the Old Market site was becoming too small and restrictive, so the company moved to bigger and better premises in Brislington in 2001. With the advantages of the new space came the opportunity to invest in new equipment, including a state-of-the-art computerised low-bake oven for curing paintwork.

In Brislington, Motorweld continues to offer a wide range of services to clients of all kinds—from those who manage large fleets to private customers and insurance clients. With its larger, wider doors and higher ceilings, the new premises allow Motorweld to handle larger vehicles than ever, extending yet further the range of clients the company is able to provide for.
